Second Week of June (June 11-12), Trinity Sunday (C)

Stewardship by the Book

Today’s Psalm reminds us that we have been crowned with glory and honor and given rule over the works of God’s hands. But we must be good stewards, for the Lord will surely hold us accountable for the use of those gifts!

Vocation View

Human beings establish lasting loving bonds. But the Trinity shows us perfect love: you, God and neighbor. There’s nothing greater than love.

Stewardship Reflections

“But when he comes, the Spirit of truth, he will guide you to all truth...”  (John 16:13)

It has been said that the best gift we can give someone is to teach them how to pray.  If you don’t talk and more importantly, listen, to God every day, how else will you know what He is calling you to do?  Just as you talk to family and friends every day, get in the habit of talking with God every day.  Develop a daily prayer routine. Keep your prayers simple and sincere.  This is best done in silence, when you can hear His response.

Family Perspective-by Bud Ozar

The words of Jesus in today’s gospel, “I have many things to say to you, but you cannot hear them now.” could have been said by any parent.  It can be frustrating because our desire to guide is often misinterpreted or poorly received.  We cannot program our children.  We can only teach, lead and trust the Spirit of truth will guide them.

Abuse of Minors or Vulnerable Adults by Priests, Deacons or Others
To report allegations of sexual abuse of minors or vulnerable adults within the Diocese of Gaylord by priests, deacons or other employees or volunteers, regardless of when it occurred, individuals should: Contact local law enforcement and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (855-444-3911). The Michigan Attorney General’s Office has also set up a special phone line for people to share information that may be of help in their ongoing investigation of sexual misconduct by Catholic clergy. That number is 844-324-3374. You may also contact the Diocesan Victim Assistance Coordinator, Larry LaCross, at 989-705-9010.

In the State of Michigan many professionals, including clergy, teachers, doctors, counselors and named others are mandated reporters. This means such individuals are REQUIRED to make an oral or online report IMMEDIATELY to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services if they suspect a child is being neglected or abused in any way. Individuals may call the state report line at the number above, which is answered 24 hours a day, or submit a report online at https://www.michigan.gov/mdhhs/0,5885,7-339-73971_7119---00.html.

Saint of the Week-St. Barnabas-Feast Day June 11

The story of this early missionary, a Cypriot Jew called Joseph, is told in the Acts of the Apostles. He was named Barnabas (son of encouragement) by the Twelve Apostles when he sold property and gave them the money (4:36-37). He introduced the convert Paul to the apostles (9:27), was officially sent by the Jerusalem church to Antioch (11:22-26), was set apart with Paul by the Spirit for a mission to Cyprus (13:2), attended the Council of Jerusalem (15:12), and returned to Cyprus with Mark (15:36-41). By tradition, he was martyred there.

In those days a great number who believed turned to the Lord.
The news about them reached the ears of the Church in Jerusalem,
and they sent Barnabas to go to Antioch.
When he arrived and saw the grace of God,
he rejoiced and encouraged them all
to remain faithful to the Lord in firmness of heart,
for he was a good man, filled with the Holy Spirit and faith. Acts 11: 21-24

Calling you to serve your community through Senior Volunteer Programs of NWMI!

Are you retired and looking for a way to make a difference in the lives of others? Do you live in Antrim, Benzie, Charlevoix, Emmet, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, Leelanau, Manistee, Missaukee, or Wexford County? The volunteer program needs you! We help strengthen families in northern Michigan, but we can't do it alone. We seek volunteers to work with children in the classroom setting and become companions to isolated seniors.

Become a Classroom Grandparent:

  • Share your talents and skills as you mentor children by working one-on-one and in small groups to lift children’s self-esteem, spirit, knowledge and more.
  • Foster Grandparent volunteers serve as role models, mentors, and tutors to children in need. Volunteers serve 15+ hours per week by meeting with children in schools, Head Start, daycare, YMCA, summer camp, or other center settings.
  • Not only do volunteers help children with specific learning such as reading, writing, and math, but they also provide a listening ear and companionship. Classroom grandparents become safe, consistent mentors in the lives of children at risk.

Become a Senior Companion:

  • Senior Companion Volunteers serve as advocates, supporters, and companions to older adults who are frail and isolated. Volunteers help connect seniors to their community and help them maintain their dignity and independence.
  • Volunteers serve 15+ hours/week to help with daily living activities such as cooking, cleaning, and other routine household tasks. Volunteers may transport and accompany seniors to doctor appointments, groceries shopping, and community events.

Make a difference by volunteering your time each week to help at-risk children and vulnerable adults who live in our communities! Must be 55+ years to volunteer with the Senior Volunteer Programs of NWMI. Asking for 15 hours a week commitment to make an impact.
