The First Sunday of Advent | Hope
The 1st Sunday of Advent leads to our anticipation of the birth of Christ and the beginning of a new liturgical season.
The first candle on the Advent wreath represents hope—representing expectation felt in anticipation of the coming Messiah. Sometimes referred to as the "Prophecy Candle," it recalls Isaiah's foretelling of the birth of Christ and that God's promises from the Old Testament would be fulfilled through the birth of Jesus.
