I have been studying at Saint John Vianney College Seminary in St. Paul, Minn., for the past two years. Since I first entered seminary until now, I have had countless experiences that have strengthened my relationship with God and those around me.
One of the highlights of my first year was when my class went on a mission trip to Mobile, Ala., where we helped others encounter the Lord through manual labor and fellowship. My first year of seminary was also a time to grow closer to the brothers around me and focus on self-growth in formation.
My second year brought many graces as well, and a highlight was my class mission trip to Chicago, where we stayed with the Mission of Our Lady of the Angels, praying with the sisters, feeding those in need and bringing Christ to others. This experience opened my eyes to the greater need for the love of the Sacred Heart in the world.
My second year of formation has rooted me deeper in trusting God’s love and plan for me through prayer, silent retreats and the everyday experiences and encounters in seminary life.
Something I am looking forward to during my third year of seminary is my semester abroad in Italy. This coming spring, I will be studying in Rome with some of my seminary classmates, staying at the Irish College and experiencing the life of the Church at the heart of the Catholic faith.
