Pope Francis offers prayers for those affected by the tornado in Gaylord

Pope Francis has expressed his condolences to the victims who have lost lives, loved ones, and their homes as a result of the devastating tornado in Gaylord last Friday.

On Tuesday, the Most Reverend Jeffrey J. Walsh, bishop of Gaylord, received a telegram from Cardinal Pietro Parolin on behalf of Pope Francis expressing the Holy Father’s “heartfelt solidarity with all affected” by the tornado in Gaylord and offered “assurance of prayers for the dead, the injured and displaced and those engaged in relief efforts.” Pope Francis concluded his message by invoking “Almighty God’s blessings of strength and peace.”

Bishop Walsh expressed his thanksgiving for Pope Francis’ message saying, “it will further strengthen us and fill us with gratitude for the Holy Father.”

Friday’s tornado, classified as an EF-3, killed two people and injured an estimated 44 more.

The Diocese of Gaylord will have a special collection in all its parishes on the weekend of May 28-29 in order to raise funds for those affected by the storm.
