In recent days, tensions have continued to rise in Ukraine, and the United States and its NATO allies consider how to best respond to the situation that is developing on their border.
Pope Francis, following his Angelus this past Sunday, expressed concern over these increasing tensions in Ukraine and appealed to all people of good will to pray “that every political action and initiative may serve human brotherhood, rather than partisan interests.” In particular, he proposed that today, January 26, be observed as a day of prayer for peace.
Bishop Walter A. Hurley has asked all in the Diocese of Gaylord to join in praying and fasting for this intention today and in the coming days:
Heavenly Father, we pray for the people of Ukraine, and all those who are threatened by war. By the grace of Christ the King, may all nations pursue more perfect justice, which ensures a true and lasting peace. Amen.
