On February 16, 2022, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services announced that the State of Michigan is entering a post-surge recovery phase of the COVID-19 cycle. With this announcement, they are expiring the Public Health Advisory on Masking in Indoor Public Settings, including schools. Therefore, masks will no longer be required in diocesan facilities, including our parishes and schools, effective immediately. It should be noted that, for the time being, Holy Communion will continue to be distributed only in one form in all our parishes.
While masks will no longer be required in diocesan facilities, parishes and schools, any local masking guidelines as required by local health departments should be followed. All should consider one’s own risk factor and that of his/her family members when making a personal decision on whether to wear a mask. As a continued demonstration of our love and charity for one another, respect should be shown towards all who choose to continue wearing a mask.
As a reminder, future recommendations for the use of masks in diocesan facilities may change as conditions warrant. We will continue to monitor and update you as necessary.
We are grateful to those who have chosen to put the needs of others first during these difficult and challenging times.
