Radiant with Grace

When Claire Couturier walks through the doors of St. Mary School in Lake Leelanau, her presence feels like sunlight breaking through clouds—warm, bright and full of life. A third-generation member of her family to attend the school, Claire carries the heritage
of faith and service that runs deep in her family.

“Part of who I am is in St. Mary’s,” she reflects. “It has taught lessons and educated me. I don’t know who I would be without it.”

Her faith isn’t confined to Sunday Mass or classroom prayers. It’s woven into every moment—how she studies, leads and serves.

Theology teacher Mark Dunphey sees it daily: “Claire lives the life of a saint. At Mass, you’ll see her serving; in class, she’s ready to lead or help a peer.

“She is always the first one to help organize events. Her work ethic and joy make everyone around her want to be better, to be holy,” he adds.

For Claire, holiness begins in ordinary acts done with extraordinary love.

Leading with Courage and Conviction

Claire’s leadership springs from her belief in the Gospel of Life. As president of Teens for Life, she has organized marches, spoken at pro-life events and even designed a billboard that won a regional contest.

“We all have a voice,” she says. “God gives us gifts to speak up and stand for what is right.” Her efforts aren’t about recognition—they’re about living her faith boldly.

Her creativity shines in unexpected places, too. Through Business Professionals of America, Claire helped create Sprouting Simplicity, a podcast about planting seeds of goodness in a fast-paced world. It earned first place nationally, proving that faith can flourish even in secular spaces.

Faith in Motion

Christ is in every part of Claire’s life – academics, athletics, work and service.

As a cross-country runner, Claire shares: “Running frees my mind. You leave behind others’ opinions and run toward him (Christ).”

Whether scooping ice cream or caring for homes, she sees work as a way to serve others and reflect God’s love.

Claire’s joyful witness reminds her peers that young disciples aren’t the Church of tomorrow—they are the Church of today: vibrant, courageous and alive with the Spirit. Through her leadership and love for Christ, she inspires others to shine their light boldly.

“Everyone can achieve something,” says Claire. “The work I do isn’t just for me. I hope it inspires others to be brave and shine their light.”
