Bulletin Announcement for November 25-26, OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, KING OF THE UNIVERSE

King of the Universe/Christ the King: Nov. 26

On the last Sunday of the liturgical year, we celebrate the Solemnity of Christ the King. Instituted by Pope Pius X in 1925, this solemnity reminds us of the never-ending reign of Christ as king of the Church and entire universe.

Just as Jesus is both fully God and fully man, this week's gospel presents Jesus as both a shepherd and a king, showing us his grace as a leader who rules while nurturing and protecting his flock at the same time.

On this same note, men are separated like sheep and goats — those who follow Christ's example will inherit eternal life, while the goats that turn a blind eye to the suffering of others will face eternal punishment. With the upcoming holiday season, take this opportunity to commit yourself to serving others as Christ teaches.

Feast of St. Andrew the Apostle: Nov. 30

On Nov. 30, we celebrate the Feast of St. Andrew the Apostle. The Gospels of Matthew and Mark present Jesus' first encounter with Andrew and his brother Peter along the shore of the Sea of Galilee. Upon receiving their call from Jesus, they abandoned their trade as fishermen to follow him as disciples.

During his lifetime, St. Andrew travelled through eastern Europe, spreading the word of Christ. At the time of his martyrdom, he requested to be crucified on a diagonal cross, as he deemed himself unworthy of dying on a cross like Jesus.

Like St. Andrew, we must also respond to him with our whole heart, ready to go where he leads.
